Here's my second piece written while in Antalya. The first piece 'Trapped (Golden Palace)' is about feeling trapped, but ends discussing the feeling of freedom. This piece focuses on freedom, with a shift towards feeling trapped at the end.
Lying on the beach, looking out at the sea
Waves rolling in gently
Sun to my right, high in the sky
Warming my cheek and arm
Creates a golden path on the sea
The reflection shimmering, enticing me
If I look, I’m momentarily blinded
You gaze out, and it’s just
Sea and sky
Dark blue and light blue
How far does it stretch?
Millions of ripples, yet sometimes glassy still
Reflective, yet destructive
Once in, it’s a different feeling
Free as a bird to dip and dive
Splash about in the shallows,
Lie on your back, close your eyes and feel the sun cover your face in gentle kisses
Or wade into the deep
Alone, at one with yourself, your thoughts, your being
But it’s also strong,
It lulls you into a false sense of security
You feel safe in its gentle arms
Then, when you’re far away from shore, from people, from safety,
It moves you against your will
Those strong arms push you further and further out, when all you long for are the soft sands of safety
It engulfs you, surrounds you
It’s powerful, yet intimate
Seeps into every nook and cranny
Covers your whole body
Gets under your swimming costume
Skin-tight
To places only you know all about
Slithers round without your permission
Wrapping tighter and tighter until
You’re trapped; it’s everywhere, all over and under and round you
Yet somehow, it feels right.
