My Fashion Top Tips

Here are my 8 top tips to help you with your fashion struggles!

  1. Purchase versatile pieces- keep them simple, but buy items in neutral colours. For jewellery, stick to minimal statement pieces. This means you can mix and match, and creating outfits becomes much easier. For example, tank tops (black and white), a comfortable pair of blue jeans, and a simple gold or silver chain for jewellery.

  2. When you've already done your makeup and want to put on a tight polo neck, cover your head and face in a silk scarf and then put the top over- it slides on easily and your makeup does not get ruined! (works a treat, trust me).

  3. Plan your outfits the night before. It may take time and be stressful, but you'll save yourself the stress in the morning. Have a look at the weather forecast for the next day too, and maybe tailor your outfit around that. Even if you can't decide on one outfit, having a couple prepared the night before definitely helps!

  4. Find out and decide which parts of your body you feel most confident about and which you like the look of the most. Then, choose items that highlight thagt part of you. For example, if I like my collar bones, I'll choose dresses and tops that are a bit more low cut and highlight and expose that part. Same goes for any other part of the body. Although it's not about showing skin. It can be, but you could also wear tighter clothing in that area or a brighter coloured fabric, or even jewellery which will draw attention to it.

  5. When layering- be careful with what the patterns, prints and fabrics are. If you are going to use bold and clashing fabrics, I urge you to be daring and style them in a modern and new way- try it out and see what you can create!

  6. Fit, cut, size and colour is very important. The fit of clothing is maybe the most important thing- it can make or break an outfit. My tip for finding the right size is to be aware that you are probably going to be different sizes in different shops. You could even be different sizes in the same shop! For example, I can be either a Small or Medium in Zara. I've also had XS and L clothes that fit me perfectly so just be aware that you can't rely on sizes in store...Try on different sizes if possible to see what fits you best. You could also measure yourself using a tape measure. I know that certain shops can tell you what size you are, based on these measurements, for example Zara and possibly John Lewis.

  7. Not every clothing item or trend suits everyone. We all have different body shapes and sizes, as well as different skin colours and tones. I would advise against simply following the trend. Even if you like an item it may not suit you or look good on you- of course you can still wear it, but the fashion police would say you just have to let it go. My mum always says- you cannot see something on yourself- yes, you have the mirror, but you cannot see a full 360 of yourself like everyone else.

  8. Find out what suits you and brings out the best in you, and what shows off your personality! One way of doing this is to try on different clothes and combinations. Try on something you wouldn't usually go for! Have fun with it!

I hope this article has helped you, even just a little bit, with your fashion queries, and just remember- have fun with it!!!
